A bouncy, funky album with elements of hip hop, punk, dub and rave. There is also a cover of Ian Dury & The Blockheads classic Sex & Drugs. Great to listen to before a night-out and after....

2007 is a landmark year for Functional/Beatz & Bobz as the club night approaches its tenth anniversary. The night has grown into a breakbeat establishment showcasing local talent and bringing big name DJs the monthly party. To celebrate a decade in dance, the crew have teamed up with sister label Functional to release the seventh installment in their compilation series.

Madox was nominated as a Breakthrough Act at the 2005 Breakspoll Awards, Best Producer at the 2006 event and was featured as the "One to watch out for" in DJ MAgazine. Madox continued to build his reputation as one half of "Trouble Soup!!" with label mate Santos and the pair have toured all over the UK, notched up quite a few remixes between them and have also relased their own mix on Y4K.

On Slams latest album, "Human Response" the duo Stuart McMillian and Orde Meikle go back to their roots with an album fused together with Detroit Techno and Electronica. The album features collaborations with My Robot Friend and Dot Allison and the lead single "Azure", (which I have to say is definitely the Slam I know and love) has been receiving rave reviews and plays from Laurent Garnier, Radioslave, Sven Vath, Carl Craig, Josh Wink and M.A.N.D.Y.

I always look forward to the latest release in the Y4K series and this dj mix is no exception. Genral Midi has created a mix that is full of thumping basslines,
belting beats, reverberating squealches and bleeps. Some of the tunes remind me of my former love - techno but the beats and basslines have more ooomph. My favourite tune on this mix has to be by Dylan Rhythmes & Jono Fernadez feat. Seany B - Breathe. It describes the whole mix which is basically uplifting, funky breakbeat that captures the atmosphere of clubbing it - bring it on....
