SoundCity - Liverpool 08
The first ever SoundCity! music festival and conference will take place in Liverpool this May with some of the hottest acts and hottest hopefuls all lined up to grace a city which is internationally recognised for producing music legends.
It is set to play host to a number of established acts, such as Reverend and the Makers, The Wombats, DJ Yoda, and Hercules and the Love Affair as well as breakthrough talent from across the globe.
In total, SoundCity! will take over 30 locations across the city - from well known venues such as Barfly, The Cavern and Carling Academy, to car parks and cellars, warehouses and churches - and will be a highlight of Liverpool's 2008 Capital of Culture celebrations.
The four day event is designed to celebrate key record labels from the DIY and independent sector and the characters that run them by providing a platform on which they can show off established and emerging artists.
Records labels such as Domino (home to The Arctic Monkeys), Deltasonic (The Coral, The Zutons), Moshi Moshi and Wall of Sound (Reverend and the Makers, Grace Jones) will all host showcase parties featuring their artists.
As well as labels and artists, SoundCity! is attracting leading UK and international industry figures and panelists. This will feature keynotes from luminaries from the music business and will also include a Liverpool vs Manchester panel debate hosted by John Robb, over which city has produced the best music.
SoundCity! is the only UK festival to be endorsed by SXSW (USA), MIDEM (France) and Musexpo (USA). More than 500 unsigned acts from all over the world have applied for the chance to play at the festival.
If you can't make it to Liverpool in May, don’t worry. Sound City will be the first ever festival to be broadcast live via Second Life - so music fans can log in and watch all the action wherever they are in the world.
